The Thrill Is Gone (vocal)

Composed by Lew Brown/Ray Henderson; arranged by Ben Patterson

NOT the B.B. King Blues! This old jazz standard was sung by Chet Baker among others . Ben has taken the haunting melody and lyrics and set them amidst swirling patterns and colors in 3/4, with a touch of torch ballad thrown in for good measure. If your female vocalist knows all about heartbreak, she'll love this one. The open solo for guitar would be a nice opportunity to try out a cool chorus-driven sound, or the solo can be open for anyone. [Instrumentation: 5 saxes, 8 brass, 4 rhythm]

This recording is from "Veterans of Jazz" by The Airmen of Note.
